How We Recycle

We recycle just about everything!!

Long before it was "in" to be green, we did everything we could to keep prices low and that meant saving money on the little things we used around the store. Like garbage bags and note paper, paper clips and of course water and electricity.

Lots of things we did over the years just became a habit for us, so when recycling became common we were way ahead already.  On this page you will find listed many of the ways we have found to recycle over the years.

This is our only garbage can!

We have 12,000 square feet of showroom and warehouse, 3 employees and annual sales over $1,000,000, but we generate less than 1 can of garbage per week!

Plastic Bags & Cardboard

Almost everything comes wrapped in plastic. We save the large bags that futons come in and reuse them, we also give them away to customers who need a bag for moving or storage.  Ripped bags are used for packing material, paint tarps, and garden clippings headed for the dump. Most futon frame components come in smaller plastic bags that we can use as trash can liners. Now we don't have to BUY them, and Mary likes that!

Styrofoam & Other Packing Materials

Our warehouse man, Dave, is the king of recycling in our store. All styrofoam is saved and available, at no charge, to our customers for their packing and shipping needs. We have all different sizes.

Glass, Aluminum, and Plastic

Homes in Marin are provided with recycle bins and free weekly pick-ups, but not businesses! But Mary dutifully takes it home each week to be picked up there. A little extra work, but every little bit counts.

Water & Electricity

Having been in business almost 25 years, the biggest increase in overhead costs have been utilities. Marin County is in constant drought mode, as has been now for years. We make sure any leaks or running water are fixed and fast. There are severe penalties$$$for overuse of water.

Electricity use is controlled in many ways, including timers on all signage and the outdoor security lights are on motion detectors. Additionally all staff turn lights off in areas where daylight is sufficient. All lighting has been converted to fluorescent.
