How to Buy a Futon

Futons are purchased in three parts: frame, futon and cover.  This makes customizing your look much more simple than with an upholstered piece.  Following are some tips to help you choose each element of your complete futon ensemble.  Also, click HERE to learn more about futons in general from Wikipedia.

Frames Explained:
When buying a futon frame, it's important to first think of the room where it is going. Always Measure your space to see how much room you actually have.

Some futon frames open from the front and close from the side, so make sure there will be room for you to maneuver around the frame. Some frames open from the front and close at the front as well, called, "front loaders," these frames are easier to use, but can be more expensive.

When considering the style of your new frame, the world is your oyster!  From contemporary to traditional, and everywhere in between, there are solid hardwood frames, bamboo rattan frames and metal/wood combo frames for the budget-minded customer.

The Mattress Matters:
Futon mattresses were originally made of cotton, but have evolved into a softer mix of cotton and foam.  People who originally bought futons for a spare room or TV room discovered just how comfortable they are and have switched from traditional coil and waterbed mattresses to futons for their primary sleep surface.

For additional form and support, we offer innerspring mattresses, but they can be a lot heavier and harder to fold!

When choosing a futon mattress, it's all about what is comfortable to you.  We ask that you come in to the store and spend some time on the different options open to you... ...at least ten minutes of lying down!

We will help you choose the mattress that is right for your space and your needs.

We've Got You Covered:
A room's style can be transformed in a matter of minutes simply by changing the futon cover, which ranges in price from about $29 to $300.

As with sofas, leathers and faux leather covers are gaining popularity - and suedes dominate the higher end, with cotton and velour fabrics available as less-expensive options.  Choose a cover that will be easy to clean as well as match your rooms decor.

We keep 100s of covers in stock in all sizes.  We also have custom options in solids and prints available for order.  The sky is the limit!
